On Tuesday, the health minister of the state, Mr. Ma Subramanian, assured that the state government will ensure that no state-run medical college in Tamil Nadu loses recognition or the right to admit students in 2023.

In May 2023, the Undergraduate Medical Education Board withdrew recognition of three state-run medical colleges in Tamil Nadu along with nearly 40 others for deficiencies in biometric attendance and inadequate CCTV cameras. However, the board has allowed an appeal against this order.

The health minister revealed that the deans of the affected colleges and officials from the directorate of medical education have filed an appeal against the UG board’s decision.

He revealed that a team of officials from the National Medical Commission inspected the Stanley Medical College and Hospital on Monday. The team revealed that they saw a functional Aadhaar-based biometric attendance system on the campus.
